When is the best time to take grape cuttings? How to increase the survival rate of cuttings?

1. Cutting time

It can be taken by cuttings in summer or spring. Summer is between June and July, and spring is between March and April. It is best to choose these two time periods in summer when the climate is more suitable and the humidity is high, which is more conducive to rooting, the rooting speed is fast, and the survival rate will be higher. Of course, we should also pay attention to the method of cuttings.

2. Cutting method

1. Choose cuttings: When taking cuttings, you should choose new branches that have become woody and have strong germination ability. Choose those without diseases and pests, cut them into small sections of about 20-30 cm, cut the top into a flat end and the bottom into an oblique end. Also cut off the upper leaves and leave only two. Be careful not to touch the buds. Soaking the seeds in rooting water before inserting them can promote faster rooting.

2. Prepare the land and make ridges: Prepare the land before planting, deep plow the land, and make ridges. The ridges should be about one meter wide. Pay attention to the soil quality, which should be loose and have good drainage. A proper amount of sand can be added to improve drainage and air permeability, which is beneficial to root growth.

3. Cuttings into the soil: You can start cuttings after the soil is prepared. The method is very simple, just insert the cuttings diagonally into the soil. Pay attention to the density of cuttings. There should be two or three rows of cuttings per bed, and the distance between each cutting should be 7-8 cm. Also be careful not to bury it too deep in the soil, and the leaves should be exposed outside. After planting, press firmly, water thoroughly, and pay attention to heat preservation and moisturizing. It will take about half a month for the roots to take shape.
