Why are the tips of the green radish leaves turning black and withering as if they were burnt?

Many people like to keep a pot of green ivy at home, which not only can purify the air, but also has high ornamental value. But why are the tips of the leaves of the green radish I grow turning black and withering as if they were burnt? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Improper watering

Watering is an important part of caring for green radish, but too much or too little watering will cause harm to the green radish. If you water too much, the roots will lack oxygen and cause rot. If you water too little, the green radish will lack water, causing the leaves to lose moisture and vitality, and become dry, curled, and black.

Solution: Before watering, insert your finger into the soil to check the moisture. If the soil is completely dry, you can water it; if the soil still has a certain degree of moisture, you can wait a little longer. If you find that the roots of the green radish are rotten, you can take it out of the pot, cut off the rotten roots, and plant it in fresh soil.

2. Light causes

Pothos likes bright but indirect light. If the light is too strong, the leaves will be sunburned and turn yellow, black, and dry. If the light is too weak, the leaves will lose color and turn yellow, black, and wither.

Solution: Generally, in summer, the sunlight is strong, so you can move the green ivy away from the window or use curtains to block some of the sunlight; in winter, the sunlight is relatively weak, so you can move the green ivy closer to the window or use artificial light to supplement some light. If you find that the leaves of the green radish are sunburned, you can move it to a cool place and cut off the damaged leaves.

3. Temperature is too low

The green ivy is not cold-resistant. If the leaves of the green ivy turn black in winter, the temperature is too low and the green ivy will suffer from frost damage. The leaves will turn black and the roots of the green ivy will be frozen. If it is in low temperature for a long time, the leaves will turn black and dry up as if they were burnt.

Solution: Generally speaking, the suitable temperature range for green radish is 18-30 degrees Celsius.

4. Too much fertilizer

The amount of fertilizer required by the green radish is not large, and it is usually suitable to supplement foliar fertilizer . If there is too much fertilizer, it will cause root and leaf burns, and the leaves will turn yellow and black.

Solution: Generally speaking, during the growing season (spring and summer), it is sufficient to fertilize once a month. No fertilizer is required during the dormant season, or fertilizer can be applied about once every two months.

5. Humidity should not be too high

Humidity is also an important factor affecting the growth of green radish. Pothos is a tropical plant that prefers a warm and humid environment. Inappropriate humidity will lead to slow growth and the leaves will turn yellow, black and wither.

Solution: The suitable humidity range for green radish is 40-60%.

6. Pests and diseases

Pests and diseases are another common cause of the blackening and withering of the leaves of the green radish.

Solution: If you find signs of pests and diseases, deal with them promptly to prevent their spread. You can use appropriate pesticides or physical methods to eliminate pests and diseases, such as spraying the leaves with fungicides , insecticides , soapy water, alcohol and other liquids, or using scissors, tweezers and other tools to cut off damaged leaves.
