How to grow Dendrobium at home and how to survive the winter in the north

How to grow Dendrobium at home and how to survive the winter in the north

1. Planting method

1. Prepare the substrate: When growing Dendrobium at home, you must prepare the substrate in advance. You need to use soil with good water permeability. You can choose from peanut shells, moss, sawdust, etc. Or you can buy special soil in the market, so you don’t have to deal with it. If you prepare the soil yourself, you need to disinfect it before using it.

2. Material selection and processing: Before planting, you need to select a branch from the plant. It must be free of pests and diseases and must be in good growth condition. You can also directly purchase healthy seedlings, but you must ensure that they are healthy.

3. Planting: After selecting the seedlings, slowly plant them in the soil. If it is a branch, insert it into the soil to a depth of one-third. After planting, water it thoroughly and cover it with plastic film. During the rooting period, be sure to uncover it to allow air to flow.

2. Wintering methods in the north

1. Move indoors: It is very cold outside in the north in winter, so it is generally moved indoors, but most areas have floor heating, so it must be placed in a high place, not directly on the heater.

2. Expose it to more sunlight: Place it in a well-lit location indoors. The sunlight in winter is not very strong, so don’t worry about burning it. Also, watering should be done less frequently and water should never be allowed to accumulate in the substrate.
