Strawberry seedling cultivation is the key to ensuring high and stable yields. Farmers should choose land with flat terrain, good drainage and irrigation, and sufficient sunlight. Generally speaking, strawberry seedlings in a strawberry garden mainly rely on runners for reproduction. Below, the editor will introduce the planting methods and management of strawberry seedlings . Let’s take a look. 1. Preparation of nursery ground You should choose loose, fertile, well-drained non-continuous cropping land as the nursery land. Before planting the mother seedlings, it is recommended to apply 150-200 kg of high-quality biological organic fertilizer per mu to improve the soil and reduce the probability of soil-borne diseases. 2. Chemical treatment One week before transplanting, spray the whole plant with protective agents such as carbendazim and mancozeb . Before transplanting, dip the strawberry roots with methyl thiophanate, carbendazim, avermectin and other agents to reduce the occurrence of root diseases and pests. 3. Mother plant selection Choose healthy and well-growing plants as mother plants, remove the old leaves in the middle and lower parts, and it is best to bring a small piece of soil when transplanting. If there is no soil, it is best to dip the roots in mud before planting to increase the survival rate. 4. Planting of mother plants When the mother plant is fixed, the spacing between rows and plants should be maintained at 50-70 cm to facilitate the extension of the runners and the growth of the daughter plants. After transplanting, it should be watered immediately and re-watered the next day to ensure full contact between the roots and the soil. It is recommended to use 4 kg of root-nourishing solution for rooting to shorten the plant's seedling period and increase the survival rate. 5. Mother plant management After transplanting, as the temperature rises, the mother plant gradually enters the vigorous growth period of flower spikes and leaves. In order to promote the nutritional growth of the mother plant and produce more runners, the flower buds and the old and diseased leaves at the bottom of the mother plant should be removed in time to increase the reproduction rate of the runner seedlings and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. When removing flower buds, be careful to avoid damaging the axillary buds so as not to affect the growth of runner seedlings. 6. Arrangement of runner seedlings After the runner seedlings sprout, they should be arranged in time so that they are evenly distributed in the field. At the same time, the overly dense runner seedlings should be cut off to reduce the dense environment in the field. Since the runners grow upward in the early stage, in order to allow the adventitious roots from the runner nodes to penetrate into the soil in time, the vines should be pressed when the seedlings have two unfolded leaves, which is beneficial to the survival and growth of the seedlings. The above is the planting method and management of strawberry seedlings. At present, large-scale strawberry garden seedlings mainly rely on runners for vegetative propagation. Seedling work usually starts in March-May each year. Farmers can master the above methods and management points.
