1. What to use for reproduction1. Reed head: The section on the top of the yam root tuber with buds is called the reed head, which has strong reproductive ability. Generally, when digging them out in winter, choose relatively thick tubers without diseases and insect pests, and cut off the other rhizomes, which should be between 15-20 cm in length. The cut reed heads should be dried in the sun for 4-6 days. After the cut surface shrinks and heals, they should be placed in a ventilated place or stored in sand. The temperature should be kept at around 5°C. Wait until the spring of the following year to take it out and plant it. Since the reed head is prone to degeneration after years of use, it needs to be replaced every 2-3 years. 2. Lingyuzi: Lingyuzi is the plant bud of yam. It mainly grows on stems and is mostly cylindrical. When harvesting, shake them off and collect them. Select those with full and larger grains for seeds. It is usually stored in wooden barrels and sown in the spring of the following year. The sowing time is mostly in March and April. Before sowing, deep plowing and fertilization should be applied, then the residual seeds are planted and covered with ash soil. Seedlings will emerge 15-20 days after sowing. 3. Rhizome: The method of rhizome propagation is similar to that of reed. Cut the harvested yam into small pieces of 8-10 cm, apply wood ash on the cut, and place it in a ventilated place to dry for 3-5 days. After the wound heals, it can be planted. It should be noted that since the edible part is the rhizome, it is rarely used for reproduction. 2. Family PlantingWhen planting yam at home, you must first choose a good flowerpot. In order to ensure that the soil layer is deep and convenient for the growth of rhizomes, the flowerpot must be of sufficient height. Fill the pot with some sandy soil, cut the yam into small pieces, treat the wounds with wood ash, and then plant it in the pot. After planting, provide adequate water and adequate light. |
