The difference between orchids with too much water and those without enough water (with rescue methods)

The difference between orchids with too much water and those without enough water (with rescue methods)

1. Large amount of water

Symptoms: If the orchid is watered too much, the surface of the soil in the pot will become very moist and slippery. You can feel that the soil in the pot is very damp by gently pressing it with your hand, and moss may also grow. The plants may also suffer from root rot due to too much water, causing the rhizomes to become soft or even rot, and the branches and leaves to turn yellow.

Measures: When it is determined that the plant has been watered too much, pour out the accumulated water in the potting soil first, then loosen the soil, and place it in a high place with good ventilation to allow the excess water in the potting soil to evaporate. But if the plant is in poor condition, then root rot may have occurred. At this time, you need to carefully remove the plant from the pot, observe the roots, cut off any rotten parts, then disinfect, dry, change the soil and replant. If you don't want to change the soil, you can pour out the original soil and dry it out in the sun. After re-potting, place it in a ventilated and cool place temporarily and control watering.

2. Lack of water

Symptoms: When the orchid is short of water, the surface of the soil in the pot will become dry and white, and its leaves will shrink due to lack of water, and even turn yellow and wither. The whole plant looks shriveled and wilted, and the color lacks luster and becomes dull.

Measures: When it is determined that the plant is short of water, it is necessary to replenish water in time and not let it remain in a dry state. But be careful not to add too much water at once. You can increase the frequency of watering, with small amounts and multiple times, to allow the plant to slowly adapt and recover before starting normal watering again.
