Corn is an important food crop and is planted in a large area in my country. The price of corn has been relatively good in the past two years, and planting corn is also a good choice for farmers. So when should early corn seedlings be grown? Let’s take a look below. 1. When should early corn seedlings be grown? The time for early corn sowing should be after the daily average temperature stabilizes above 10 degrees, which should start in mid-April in central and southern North China. If the soil is covered with plastic film, sowing can be done in early April. 2. Five key points for spring corn planting 1. Remember not to sow too early If spring corn is sown too early, the low ground temperature will easily cause the corn to germinate slowly and the seeds to go bad. Sowing too early is very likely to cause spring drought and late spring cold, and head smut is prone to occur. Sowing is carried out in late April to early May in the Huanghuai and Huaihai regions, and in May in the Northeast and Northwest regions. Sowing is carried out when the soil temperature at about 10 cm is stable at more than 10 degrees Celsius, thus ensuring uniform, sufficient, complete and strong seedlings, laying the foundation for high yield. 2. Choose high-quality corn seeds The nationally certified first-class seeds must have a minimum purity of 98%, a minimum cleanliness requirement of 98%, a minimum germination rate of 85%, and a moisture content of no less than 13%. The purity of other grades of seeds is reduced by 1%, and the yield per mu is reduced by ten to several dozen kilograms. 3. Avoid covering the soil too thickly and with different depths. If the seeds are sown too deep, they will suffocate and die due to lack of oxygen. Even if seedlings emerge, they will be numerous and weak. In arid land without irrigation conditions, it is better to sow slightly deeper to reduce the impact of drought on seedling emergence. For plots with suitable soil moisture conditions, the sowing depth should be 3-5 cm and should not exceed 8 cm. The sowing depth should be consistent, the seedlings should emerge in an even manner, and a good group should be formed. 4. Avoid planting fertilizer too close to seeds For plots that are fertilized once, the base fertilizer should be applied at a depth of more than 10 cm. When sowing seeds and fertilizers together, the distance between seeds and fertilizers should be 8-10 cm. The more base fertilizer, the greater the distance to avoid seed burn. 5. Avoid excessive humidity after sowing If there is continuous rainy weather after sowing, the moisture content of the soil will increase, and the seeds will be submerged in water for a long time, causing them to lack oxygen, suffocate and rot. In the rainy areas in the south, it is necessary to clear ditches and drain water in time to maintain soil aeration. That’s it |
