How to pot Clivia seedlings

How to pot Clivia seedlings

1. Prepare the soil

Before potting, you need to prepare the potting soil. Since it is a small seedling, the flowerpot does not need to be too big, a diameter of about 10cm will be enough. The soil should have a certain degree of drainage and air permeability, and it would be better if peat soil could be used. The soil must be clean, and it is best not to use soil that has been used to grow other plants.

2. Handling seedlings

Before potting, you need to check the condition of its roots first, and then use potassium permanganate to disinfect and soak it. It does not need to be soaked for too long. Take it out after 5 minutes and rinse it with water. Then let the roots dry and you can pot it. If there are wounds on the roots, apply some carbendazim or charcoal powder to help the roots grow and recover.

3. Put it in the basin

First, spray the soil wet, use tools to dig a small hole, and then plant the sterilized and dried seedlings into it. When planting, the roots should be allowed to fully stretch out and not be entangled during planting. After planting, cover the roots with soil and press lightly.

4. Potting and Maintenance

After potting, it needs to be placed in a cool place with natural ventilation, such as on the windowsill at home. There is no need to fertilize it in the early stage, because its root absorption capacity is not very good, and fertilization can easily cause fertilizer damage. Wait for it to grow 2-3 leaves, then you can apply a small amount of fertilizer.
