How to propagate Monstera with aerial roots

How to propagate Monstera with aerial roots

1. Time Selection

When using aerial roots for reproduction, you must choose the right time. A good climate environment can be conducive to rooting and facilitate later reproduction. If aerial roots are used for propagation, the surrounding temperature should be maintained between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius, so the best time is March or April in spring, and the survival rate will be higher. The climate in different regions is different, so the time may be slightly adjusted.

2. Cut off the aerial roots

Observe the growth of the entire Monstera plant, determine the location of the aerial roots, and then cut down from near the base, cutting off 3-4 nodes of the aerial roots. Do not plant them immediately after cutting them. Place them in a ventilated place to dry in the sun first.

3. Prepare the potting soil

There are not many requirements for the choice of flower pots. They don't need to be too big, as long as they have drainage holes at the bottom. The soil must be carefully selected, requiring good air permeability and drainage. Such soil is conducive to rooting and must be exposed to the sun for disinfection before use.

4. Cutting rooting

Bury the processed branches in the potting soil, water them appropriately to keep them moist, and maintain a suitable temperature around them. After a period of time, the aerial roots will sprout and take root, and then they can be moved to new potting soil for planting, providing them with light, water, and fertilizer appropriately.
