How to grow Cymbidium

How to grow Cymbidium

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Cymbidium is suitable for growing in a warm environment. It grows fastest when the temperature is between 18 and 22 degrees. Of course, it can grow normally without being affected when the temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees. Its resistance to high temperature and cold is not very strong. The high temperature in summer cannot be higher than 30 degrees, and the winter overwintering temperature needs to be controlled above 5 degrees. If the temperature is too high, it will grow slowly.

2. Watering: The normal growth of Cymbidium requires moderate watering, and it must be watered thoroughly each time. If it is half dry and not watered, some lumps will appear, which will limit its growth. At the same time, the frequency should not be too frequent. Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering, and then water it according to the specific changes in the soil.

3. Light: The cymbidium does not have high requirements for light, but it cannot be exposed to strong light. After being exposed to strong light, the branches and leaves of the plant will turn yellow. Under normal circumstances, it can be allowed to receive warm light in the afternoon, and the midday sunlight can be reduced. In winter, it can directly receive full sunlight.

4. Fertilization: Fertilizer soil is necessary for the growth of cymbidium, so fertilizer should be applied once or twice a month. At the same time, the branches and leaves of cymbidium have high ornamental value, so some foliar fertilizer needs to be applied appropriately during the cultivation period.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Division is the main method of reproduction, which can be done when repotting. The roots of the vigorously growing mother plant can be divided into several parts and replanted. Each rhizome should have roots, so that the survival rate will be higher.

2. Pruning: The growth rate of Cymbidium is not very fast, but it also needs proper pruning, because cutting off some useless branches and leaves will be beneficial to its growth and can sprout new branches.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: White rot will occur in the rainy season, and some white substances will appear on the branches and leaves of the plant, eventually leading to root rot. You can sprinkle some lime to control and prevent it.

2. Pests: Scale insects will occur. If the number is relatively small, you can directly brush them off with a brush, or you can spray omethoate solution to control them.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic and can be raised with confidence.

2. Can it be raised at home? Absolutely. It is very ornamental and can improve one’s character.
