Durian dwarfing planting time and technology How to plant and manage durian seedlings

Durian is a famous tropical fruit. Currently, my country relies heavily on imports, with the largest amount coming from Thailand. Due to the increasing demand for durian, it is also being grown in China, mainly in Guangdong and Hainan, China. Next, let's learn about durian dwarfing cultivation techniques and management methods.

Durian planting time

Durian is best grown in spring. If you plant it in a pot at home, there are no strict requirements on the time, but it likes high temperatures and has high requirements for light, so it is best to plant it in spring or summer.

Durian dwarfing planting technology

1. Reproduction method

Durian propagation methods include seed propagation, grafting, cuttings, layering, etc. Although seed propagation is easy to germinate, the durian tree shape varies greatly, and some high-quality durian may grow inferior durian.

Poor quality durian seeds can also produce high quality durian, and the direction of offspring variation is difficult to predict, so seed propagation is generally not chosen. Grafting is the most commonly used method, followed by cuttings. Transplantation is divided into bud grafting, stick grafting and branch grafting.

2. Grafting method

Durian can be grafted all year round. The rootstock for cleft grafting is generally selected from seedlings that have not yet unfolded after sowing. The rootstock pieces are cut off and then the scion is grafted. The rootstock pieces are then cut into 1 cm deep scions.

Cut off a part of the leaves to reduce leaf transpiration, cut the scion into wedge shape, join it to the rootstock, wrap it with plastic film, place it in a cool place to avoid direct sunlight, and observe its survival after a period of time.

3. Planting management

After transplanting, when the seedlings grow to a height of about 40 cm, they can be planted. When planting, it is best to ensure that there is soil under the roots to increase the survival rate. Usually, the spacing between plants is 3 meters and the spacing between rows is about 5 meters.

Before planting, apply enough basal fertilizer, which generally includes organic fertilizer and soil fertilizer, and add lime. When planting, the time requirement is not strict, so it can be planted all year round.

4. Fertilization and pruning

After the durian tree is established, especially after it starts to bear fruit, it is necessary to fertilize and prune the tree in time. Generally speaking, it needs to be pruned once every two years, and it needs to be pruned again after the fruit is picked every year.

Fertilization is usually done during the bud and fruit expansion period, especially during the fruit expansion period. Sufficient organic fertilizer should be applied to ensure the expansion growth of durian fruits to increase yield.

5. Pest and disease control

For the prevention and control of durian aphids, you can spray 1000 times of liquid in about a week. Use lice-killing powder and 10 liters of water to spray the durian powder once a week until it dies, usually two to four times.

For insect pests, 15 ml of Lingdan can be added to 10 liters of water and sprayed once every two weeks until the termites disappear. Dakening or Huobaoli can be used for durian leaf anthracnose.

6. Harvest when mature

Durian matures in November, February, and June to August. These seasons are its ripening period. When the fruit is about to mature, you need to observe carefully. When the fruit turns orange-yellow or orange-red, it is ripe and can be harvested. It is not easy to eat it immediately after harvesting. It needs to wait for a week until the flesh becomes soft before it can be eaten.
