What month is suitable for planting lotus root?

When to plant lotus root

Lotus roots are generally planted in spring from April to May. The soil must be rich in organic matter. When planting, you should choose strong and plump lotus root plants, and then bury them directly in the lotus field.

Planting time in the north and south: The planting time of southern lotus roots and northern lotus roots is different. Southern lotus roots are generally planted in February, while northern lotus roots are generally planted in April-May.

Greenhouse planting time: If you plant lotus roots in a greenhouse, you can plant them in March or April, and it is best to control the temperature at 20-30℃.

The lotus root planting area in my country is very large, and common production areas include southern provinces such as Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Jiangxi.

Zhejiang lotus root

Zhejiang lotus root can be planted in April and May, and it takes about 80 days from planting to harvesting. The lotus root here tastes good and has the effects of helping digestion, stopping diarrhea, stimulating appetite and clearing away heat.

Fujian lotus root

Fujian is also the main producing area of ​​lotus roots, which are mostly planted in spring and have a growth cycle of about 4 months. Lotus roots have high nutritional value and can be used as a tonic and medicine.

Lotus root varieties and planting months

There are many cultivated varieties of lotus roots. The common ones include Yingcheng White Lotus, E'Lian, Da Zihong, Makou White Lotus, Beauty Red, Wuzhi No. 2, and Anhui Piaohua.

Yingcheng White Lotus

Yingcheng white lotus can be planted around March, with a growing period of about 7 months. The plant has good stress resistance, larger stomata and longer lotus root body.

Makou White Lotus

Makou White Lotus is a medium to late maturing variety with a growing period of about 7 months. Its epidermis is white, with fewer lenticels and an oval cross-section.
