Spinach is one of the vegetables commonly grown by farmers and can be grown either on the balcony or in the vegetable garden. If you want to increase the yield of spinach, it is important to learn the planting, cultivation and management techniques of spinach. 1. Choose the right variety Spinach can be grown all year round, and suitable varieties should be selected in different seasons to ensure yield and quality. For example, for wintering spinach, you should choose cold-resistant, late-bolting, and high-yielding varieties; for summer spinach, you should choose heat-resistant, disease-resistant, and fast-growing varieties. 2. Land preparation and fertilization Spinach grows best in fertile, well-drained soil. After harvesting the previous crop, clean up the remaining leaves and rotten roots to avoid diseases. Apply farmyard manure, deep plow the land, and make flat or raised beds. 3. Sowing method There are two ways to sow spinach: broadcasting and row sowing. Broadcasting is to spread the seeds evenly on the soil surface, while row sowing is to sow in furrows and then cover with soil. Row sowing is easier to manage and is recommended. Water thoroughly before sowing to promote seed germination. When sowing in summer and autumn, in order to increase the germination rate, the seeds can be treated, such as germinating after being refrigerated in the refrigerator for one day. After sowing, straw can be covered in summer to provide shade and retain moisture. 4. Watering and fertilizing After the spinach grows two or three true leaves, thin out the seedlings, retaining strong plants and keeping the seedling distance between them at 5-10 cm. Large-leaf spinach can be planted densely, while round-leaf spinach requires a larger spacing between seedlings to ensure quality. Spinach requires less water and fertilizer during the seedling stage. Watering and topdressing are only needed when the soil is dry or obviously lacking fertilizer. After four or five true leaves appear, growth accelerates and you should increase watering and fertilizing to promote growth. Mainly use quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, 30-40 kg of ammonium sulfate can be used per mu. Overwintering spinach should be watered thoroughly before winter to increase soil temperature and prevent frost damage. No management is required during the winter, and watering and topdressing can be done after the plant turns green in spring. When planting in summer and autumn, cover with a shade net to prevent high temperatures from affecting growth. The above are the key points for growing spinach. Spinach can generally be harvested in forty to fifty days. As long as the field management is done well, the yield can be considerable.
