When is the best season to plant poplars?

Poplar Planting Season and Time

Poplar planting is not seasonal. Poplar cultivation in winter and spring is not restricted by the planting time in early winter or spring. Under good cultivation conditions, there is no significant difference in the survival rate of the two periods, which can reach more than 95%.

Common poplar species include black poplar, big-leaf poplar, white poplar, green poplar, poplar, etc. There is no time limit for the growth of these species.

Poplar harvest season

The flowering period of poplars is from March to April, which should be in late spring and early summer. The planting specifications of poplars are generally 4-6*8 square meters. One acre of land can plant 14-20 poplars and grow them into large trees.

Generally speaking, it can become material within 8-10 years. It is a strong light-loving tree species, so the density of afforestation should not be too high.

Poplar planting steps and methods

1. Seedling cultivation method: 3000-3500 poplar seedlings are planted per square meter. The seedling height is 3.5 meters, the thickness is 3 cm, the spacing between rows is 30×50 cm, and the seedbed is guaranteed to face east.

2. Cultivation points: When cultivating, you should master the five major, one deep and one soaking techniques, that is, seedling height 3.5 meters, thickness: 3cm, pond: pond 80cm, fertilizer, pond organic fertilizer 1/3 high, large plant spacing, more than 4×5m, large water, water the bucket water depth immediately after cultivation, and the cultivation depth is about 50cm.

3. Field management: After afforestation, timely plant crops in the field, weed, and fertilize to improve economic benefits. Intercropping of soybeans, cotton, vegetables, etc. should be done in this way instead of using high-pole intercropping crops.

4. Soil environment: Sandy soil, earth slopes, dams, and channels. Poplars grow fast, especially in the sandy soil of Tongnan area. They grow 2 to 4 cm in diameter each year and become mature in 8 years.

5. Pest and disease control: Poplars have serious pests, such as poplar moths, caterpillars, mulberry longhorn beetles, etc. Enemies are controlled by pesticides such as poisonous moths, poisonous moths, and dimethoate, while mulberry longhorn beetles are afraid of enemies and are controlled by injection.

6. Fertilization method: Apply base fertilizer before the nursery bed, and follow up with quick-acting fertilizer three times in the middle until the end of August. No fertilizer can be applied after September, otherwise the seedlings will grow too fast and cannot be effectively lignified. They will be easily infected in winter and spring, and the afforestation will die.
