Can Dieffenbachia prunings be hydroponically cultivated?

Can Dieffenbachia prunings be hydroponically cultivated?

1. Can it be hydroponically grown?

Dieffenbachia cuttings can be grown hydroponically. It is more suitable for growing in a humid environment, and hydroponics can better meet this condition. Moreover, hydroponics is relatively clean and hygienic, and is not prone to disease and insects. However, the water quality must be strictly controlled and the nutrient solution must be used moderately to avoid damaging the roots.

2. How to hydroponically cultivate

1. Cut branches: Select healthy and strong branches from the evergreen plant, with a diameter of more than 1 cm. Cut a 5-8 cm long section, keeping the stem nodes on it. Roots will only grow at the nodes, and the plant cannot survive without nodes.

2. Disinfection: Apply potassium permanganate solution on the bottom of the cut branches. The concentration of the solution should not be too high and it needs to be diluted with water to make it pink to avoid damage to the branches. After that, put it in a cool and ventilated place, and it can be hydroponically cultivated after it dries.

3. Container selection: The container should be of moderate size. It is best to use a slender transparent glass cup or glass bottle. This will help it take shape and also allow you to observe the situation inside. Pour two-thirds of clean water into the container. The water quality should be good, and the tap water should be air-dried for a few days before use.

4. Carry out hydroponics: Place the bottom of the branch into the hydroponic container so that the stem nodes are submerged in water. Change the water every 4 days and add some nutrient solution. After the roots have taken shape, the frequency of water changes can be reduced to once every half a month in summer. At the same time, control the amount of water so that some roots are above the water level.
