Legend has it that after Dou E was unjustly killed, she appeared in a dream to her father Dou Tianzhang, telling him that in the hot June day, if his daughter had been wronged, heavy snow would fall. After waking up from the dream, Dou Tianzhang discovered that heavy snow was indeed falling. The unknown small trees in the yard also began to bloom with small white flowers.

In order to commemorate Dou E, and because it blooms in the snow in June, this plant is called "June Snow". This is the legend about June snow.
