How to propagate the fortune tree

How to propagate the fortune tree

1. Seed propagation

When its fruit is ripe, we can pick it, then crack the shell, take out the seeds inside, and plant the seeds immediately. The soil should be prepared in advance before sowing. The soil used is generally plain sand. The sowing distance is usually 5×10 cm, and the seeds are buried about 3 to 4 cm deep in the soil.

After planting, place the flower pot in a basin filled with water and soak it thoroughly. Keep the temperature between 25 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius and the seeds will germinate in about a week. When the seedling has about 4 leaves, it can be moved into a pot for planting. When planting in a pot, be sure to plant it shallowly so that the roots are appropriately exposed above the soil surface.

2. Cutting propagation

This method of propagation is easy to obtain materials, has a high chance of survival, and can propagate many plants at the same time. The specific operation is: select the top branches as cuttings, insert them into the soil prepared in advance, generally choose plain sand as the matrix soil, water them thoroughly once after insertion, and it is best to cover them with a layer of transparent film, which can have a good moisturizing effect.

Place the inserted branches in an environment of 25 to 28 degrees, and they will take root in about half a month. This method can be used throughout the year in our country, but it is only applicable from May to August in the north. Pay attention to shade in summer.

3. Grafting

Some varieties of money trees can also be propagated in this way, and the advantage is that the characteristics of the mother plant can be maintained. This method can usually be adopted in August and September. Use it as the rootstock, select tender branches with 3 buds as scion, and use the tender branch cleft grafting method. After grafting, place it in a plastic shed to prevent the newly grafted branches from being exposed to rain. As long as you take good care of it, it can grow into a sapling in the same year.
