How to plant Kalanchoe seeds

How to plant Kalanchoe seeds

1. Sowing method

1. Sowing time: Sowing is generally carried out in spring or autumn. The temperature during these two periods is suitable, which promotes growth. The ideal time is March, when warmer temperatures are good for the seedlings.

2. Seed selection and collection: Since only single-petal Kalanchoe has seeds, there are relatively few choices. In addition, since the seeds are small, it is not very convenient to collect them and requires more careful selection.

3. Substrate preparation: Seeds have very strict requirements on the growth environment. Choose slightly acidic soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5. Mix peat, sand and vermiculite in a ratio of 1:1:4 and then disinfect.

4. Sowing process: Sprinkle the seeds of Kalanchoe evenly on the surface of the substrate, then press the substrate lightly without covering it with soil. Then cover it with plastic film, place it in a place with scattered light, and control the temperature at around 17℃. It will germinate in about ten days, and remove the film after germination.

2. Seedling maintenance

The maintenance of Kalanchoe during the seedling stage is particularly important. The first thing is temperature control. Temperatures that are too high or too low will cause the seedlings to stop growing or even die, so insulation is needed. The second is the issue of light. The seedlings should not be exposed to direct sunlight to avoid water evaporation. Also, don't water too much, keep it moist but don't let water accumulate. Pay attention to these aspects and the seedlings will naturally grow healthily.
