Before and after the New Year, go to this secret base to pick flowers and grow them without spending a penny!

The secret base for picking flowers at the flower market

If you often visit flower markets, you will find that most flower shops have a trash can or box at the door, and the most commonly discarded items are anthuriums.

Of course, the layout of flower markets in each place is different. Some flower markets will prepare special trash cans for each flower shop, which are usually stored at the head and end of the flower street.

There are also some flower markets that pay more attention to appearance. When you go to buy flowers, you often won’t find any discarded flowers. If you encounter this, you can go to the back of the flower market and have a look. There will usually be a large area for discarded flowers.

The first step to picking up flowers and bringing them home is to check and disinfect them.

If we can pick up flowers at the flower market, it means that these flowers are discarded by the flower market. The reasons for being thrown away are nothing more than plant death, root rot and leaf rot, insect pests and diseases, and poor quality.

Therefore, the first step we need to do when we pick up the flowers and bring them home is to check and disinfect them, including the roots, stems, leaves of the plants, and whether the soil is suitable for the growth of the plants.

1. Poor appearance

If there are no problems after inspection and the plant was discarded because of poor quality, then we will trim the dry and damaged stems and leaves of the plant and directly put it in a pot for maintenance.

2. Poor soil quality

If we find that the original soil of the flowers is of poor quality, or even only the surface soil is good, and the soil inside that is in contact with the roots is very poor, we need to replace the soil with new one, repot and replant it.

3. Plant root rot

If it is root rot, we need to remove all rotten roots of the plant, soak the pruned roots in a solution of carbendazim for disinfection, take out the roots to dry, then change the soil and replant them.

4. Diseases, pests and insect pests

If the plant is discarded by the flower market due to pests and diseases, we need to prune off the branches and leaves that are densely infested with pests and diseases, and then use pesticides to specifically eliminate the diseases and insect eggs, such as the most common powdery mildew and aphids.

The second step of picking up flowers and taking them home is to isolate and maintain them

No matter why the flowers we pick up were discarded, we must keep them separate from the original flowers at home for a period of time when we take them home to take care of them.

Otherwise, if the flowers you picked up are carrying pests and diseases, they may infect all the existing plants in your home. Then you will not just have picked up a pot of flowers, but a trouble.

Therefore, it is necessary to carry out one month of care and ensure that no plants are found to be carrying any diseases or pests before the new plants can be mixed with the old members of the household.
