How to prune blueberry trees

1. Summer pruning

Its pruning is usually done in summer, specifically before August. Cutting off the branches that are growing too densely, damaged or dry can enhance ventilation and light transmission, allowing the branches inside to receive more light. When pruning, just cut along the base of the branch.

2. Seedling pruning

When blueberry trees are young, the flower buds should be pruned to promote branch growth and expand the crown of the fruit tree. It can also allow most of the nutrients to remain in the roots, promote better development of the root system, adjust the shape of the tree, and produce more fruits in the later stage.

3. Mature Pruning

After the fruit trees grow up, they need to be pruned to control their height and improve the area receiving light. When pruning, damaged, dense, diseased and weak branches should be cut off, leaving only strong branches, so that the fruit tree can grow more balanced and strong.

4. Renewal and pruning of old trees

Generally speaking, trees that have been planted for about 20 years will have part of their trunk close to the ground. This means that the tree is basically old and all the branches close to the ground should be sawed off. Note that the saw cut should be close to the main trunk to facilitate the sprouting of new branches.
