How to care for wintersweet after it fades

1. Watering in time

Domestic wintersweets are generally grown indoors. After their flowering period, they should be moved outdoors promptly to allow them to receive sufficient sunlight. They should also be watered promptly, waiting until the soil is completely dry before watering again, and they should be watered thoroughly all at once.

2. Change the pot on time

The pots of domestic wintersweets need to be changed regularly, because they are usually grown in pots at home and the nutrients in the soil are limited. The pots need to be changed once every one to two years to ensure that they can grow healthily. The best time to repot is when it has finished flowering and its branches and leaves begin to sprout, which is in March or April.

3. Reproduction and Grafting

After its flowers fade, we can also graft it for propagation, so that you can get a new pot of wintersweet. First, we choose a relatively thick branch and cut off the top so that the nutrients will be more concentrated. After a month, cut a section at the bottom of the branch and insert it into the rootstock and secure it with a plastic bag.

4. Proper pruning

After it blooms, you can prune its branches appropriately. If you still want to maintain its original shape, you can cut off the new branches so that when it blooms again next year, it will still bloom on the previous branches. However, if you are pruning, you should do it step by step and not cut off too much at one time.
