How to keep potted roses alive during the winter

How to keep potted roses alive during the winter

1. Protect against cold

Although roses are relatively cold-resistant, you still need to take measures to protect them from the cold after winter. Try to keep them in a warmer place because the temperature outside is relatively low. Especially for flower lovers in northern regions, they must move the plants indoors as soon as possible and keep them warm.

2. Temperature

The temperature of the breeding environment should be adjusted carefully. Generally, it should not be lower than 5℃, but some varieties can survive the winter at -15℃. In addition, air circulation must be ensured. Roses should not be allowed to grow in an overly hot environment. It is best to open the windows more often when the weather is good.

3. Pruning

During the wintering of the plant, it is necessary to properly prune away dead branches and leaves, and some weak branches should also be cut off, so that new branches can grow. In addition, it is best to prune away winter flowers. The time for pruning can be between the winter solstice and the beginning of spring, or you can prune according to your own preference.

4. Watering

During the winter, the plants need less water than usual, so the amount of watering should be less, and the frequency of watering should be controlled. Make sure the soil is not too moist. The soil in the pot can be kept relatively dry, but the soil must not be allowed to become compacted to avoid the plant drying out.
