Can Schefflera be hydroponically cultivated?

Can Schefflera be hydroponically cultivated?

Hydroponics Method

Method 1: Hydroponic branches

Cut 10 cm semi-lignified branches from the Schefflera plant, and have 2 to 3 or more branches with leaves, cut off the branches and leaves below, and only keep 1 to 2 palmate compound leaves. Then put 2/3 of the branch into water and place it in a sunny place.

Control the ambient temperature to above 15℃. Usually, white callus tissue will form at the cut in about 10 days, and adventitious roots will form in a few more days.

After about 45 days, the water-rooted Schefflera will grow roots of about 6 cm and can be managed normally at this time.

Soil-grown plant root washing hydroponics

Take the soil-grown Schefflera out of the soil, clean the soil around the roots, and place the plant in a glass bottle filled with clean water (tap water needs to be stored for 2 to 3 days).

In the early stage of hydroponics, change the water every 2 to 3 days, control the temperature above 15°C, supplement light appropriately, and add a few drops of nutrient solution to the water when changing the water.

Hydroponics precautions

Change water promptly

The water of hydroponic Schefflera needs to be changed once a week. Adding a few drops of nutrient solution to the water each time you change the water can make the roots of the Schefflera stronger. The water level in the hydroponic container should not be too high and should not overflow the trunk.

Controlling temperature

The suitable temperature for the growth of Schefflera is 15~25℃, and it can also grow normally above 30℃. The temperature in winter cannot be lower than 5℃, otherwise the leaves will fall off.

Adequate lighting

Schefflera needs sufficient light to grow, and abundant sunlight can make it bright at night. However, the leaves of Schefflera are shade-tolerant and can maintain their dark green color even in semi-shade. However, the hydroponic Schefflera needs to be exposed to the sun regularly, but it needs moderate shade in the summer.
