What does the aerial root of Monstera look like (the role of the aerial root of Monstera, how to handle and protect it)

The role of Monstera aerial roots:

Appearance : The aerial roots of Monstera mainly grow on the branches close to the soil. These aerial roots are relatively thick and soft to the touch, but very tough .

If you are not careful, it is easy to break if you touch it with your hands. Even if it breaks, don't worry, because the existence of this aerial root will consume some extra nutrients.

When the nutrition of the aerial roots reaches a certain level, its branches tend to grow into a curved shape, which is very ugly.

The roots of Monstera prefer moisture for better respiration . However, when caring for Monstera, we must keep the planting material of Monstera alternating between dry and wet. When the planting material is moist, the air circulation is not smooth.

In this case, Monstera will grow breathing roots at the nodes of the old stems to retain the absorbed gases and convert them into the substances needed for its own growth.

There are many ways to deal with the root system of turtle back:

(1) Binding and soaking in water:

When the roots of Monstera deliciosa grow to a certain length, they can be gathered together and put into a mineral water bottle, leaving half outside the bottle and soaking half in water.

This treatment will not affect the root breathing, but also turn the breathing roots into water replenishing roots. Even if we are not at home for a long time, the Monstera will not lose water.

(2) Propagation of Monstera:

The aerial roots at the nodes of Monstera deliciosa originally only have the function of breathing, but as long as we pull the roots into the soil, they can become roots that absorb nutrients and water.

After the roots have been buried in the soil for 1 to 2 months, we can directly cut the Monstera and plant it in a flowerpot, so that we can have several more pots of Monstera.

(3) Modeling:

The leaflets on the stems of Monstera are relatively large, and the plant grows very fast. The tall plant and the thin stems are disproportionate, which looks awkward.

At this time, we can find a few water-absorbing stones, pile them at the base of the Monstera, and then attach the roots to the water-absorbing stones.

This treatment can not only increase the ornamental value, but also allow the roots to breathe and absorb water from the absorbent stone.
