When to repot orchids

When to repot orchids

1. Time to change pots

Orchids are usually repotted in spring and autumn, which reduces the rate of damage and facilitates recovery. Spring is between the vernal equinox and the grain rain. The flowering period has ended, but the leaf buds have not yet sprouted. The temperature is basically suitable at this time and it is not easy to get frostbite. Repotting can help recover as soon as possible and is beneficial to later growth. Autumn is between the autumnal equinox and the frost, and the plants are already dormant. Repotting at this time will reduce the impact, and after recovering throughout the winter, they will be able to germinate and grow better in the spring.

2. Precautions for changing pots

1. Root pruning: When repotting, you should also prune its root system, cut off the old roots, diseased roots and dead roots, then disinfect and dry the wounds before repotting. This will save nutrients and enable better absorption of nutrients, so that the plant will grow stronger later on.

2. Soil: When repotting, you also need to replace the soil with new one. You need to prepare breathable soil containing humus. You can mix leaf mold with an appropriate amount of garden soil and sand. In addition, it is best to put tiles or stones at the bottom before potting to improve drainage and avoid water accumulation.

3. Watering: In addition to the method, you should also pay attention to watering in time after repotting. Water thoroughly once so that the roots and soil can fully come into contact with water. This is called root-fixing water.
