The fastest way to root Chinese toon cuttings

The fastest way to root Chinese toon cuttings

Toona sinensis cutting time

Toona sinensis cuttings should be carried out in spring every year, specifically between April and June. The temperature at this time is basically stable, and the germination ability of the branches is relatively strong, which can increase the survival rate and promote faster rooting.

If the Chinese toon is dipped or soaked in rooting powder, new roots will sprout in about 20 days. If no treatment measures are taken, rooting will be slow.

Simple method of cuttings of Chinese toon

Usually, newly grown, woody toon branches are chosen for cuttings. Before cuttings, they need to be soaked in 4% butyric acid solution to prevent bacteria from invading. Then put it in a warm place and wait for it to germinate. After it sprouts, it is transplanted into the potting soil. It should be noted that it should be watered in time after cuttings, and watered appropriately every day.

Toona sinensis rooting method

Handling cuttings : When cutting, choose strong branches grown that year as cuttings, as such branches have strong germination ability. They do not need to be cut too long, about 15-20 cm long is enough. Remove some of the leaves on the branches to reduce water consumption. The bottom should be cut into an oblique mouth to increase the water absorption area and better absorb nutrients and water.

Prepare the cutting bed : The substrate for cuttings must be soft and breathable. You can add more river sand to improve the air permeability and drainage capacity. After preparation, sterilize it at high temperature to avoid insect eggs or bacteria residues. If conditions permit, it is recommended to add brassinolide, which can increase the nutrient content of the soil and promote faster rooting.

Soil cuttings : After the substrate is prepared, you can plant the cuttings in the soil. Insert them directly into the substrate. Dip them in rooting powder before inserting to promote faster rooting. Water them thoroughly after inserting. Keep them in a semi-shaded and ventilated place, and don't rush to expose them to direct sunlight. This way, they will take root quickly.

Watering freshly cut toon

Chinese toon should be watered in time after cuttings. Don’t water it too much, as excessive water is not good. Watering it moderately every day will have a better effect. It can replenish sufficient water and effectively avoid flooding.
