What is peat soil?

Peat soil, also known as turf soil, is soil that has accumulated and settled in mountains, rivers, lakes, valleys, etc. Due to long-term accumulation of water, many plants cannot be completely decomposed, and a peat layer is slowly formed.

Peat soil is the product of swamp development. It contains more than 30% organic matter, has a relatively loose and fragmented texture, is mostly brown or black in color, and is slightly acidic. It is a valuable natural resource.

What kind of soil is peat soil

Peat soil is a kind of organic soil, which is mostly collected in swamps. After the plants die, they pile up together. After a long period of fermentation and decomposition, peat soil is formed. It has a high nutrient content and relatively good air permeability.

The role of peat soil

Peat soil itself can improve the pH value of the soil, and can also be mixed with other soils to make it nutrient soil. For example, it can be mixed with garden soil, peat soil, perlite, gravel, etc. to make it a soil with high nutrients and good water permeability.

The advantages of peat soil are that it contains a large amount of fiber, organic matter, and humic acid, has a relatively loose texture, and has good air permeability and water permeability. The disadvantage is that this type of soil has poor water retention and water is easily lost.

What to plant on peat soil

Peat soil is more suitable for growing succulents, vegetables, park vegetation, etc., because this soil is naturally sterile, water-retaining and breathable. It can be prepared into various nutrient soils and flower soils, which are very beneficial for cultivating flower seedlings, high-end flowers, etc.
