Cultivation methods and precautions for potted figs

Potted figs are easy to grow. They are a very suitable potted fruit with certain ornamental value. Their leaves are large and look lush green. Although they will fall off in the cold winter, they remain green for three seasons a year. They are very sun-resistant and relatively cold-resistant.

How to grow potted figs

1. Flower Pots

If the potted fig is a cutting seedling, you can use a smaller pot at the beginning, but you must change to a larger pot in the second year. The size of the pot determines the size of the fig tree. At least choose a pot with a diameter and depth of more than 30 cm to meet the growth needs of the plant.

2. Potting soil

Figs like fertilizer. If the soil provided is not fertile, it will definitely grow very slowly, so be sure to prepare more fertile soil, use leaf mold, add enough base fertilizer, and adding some garden soil or peat is a good choice.

3. Lighting

Figs like an environment with plenty of sunlight and must be planted in a sunny place. If it is a north balcony, it needs at least three or four hours of sunlight every day. If there is insufficient light, the branches and leaves will grow too long and there will be fewer fruits.

4. Watering

Potted figs like moisture and need to be watered frequently during the growth period, especially in summer and early autumn when the temperature is high. They need to be watered once a day and must be watered thoroughly. However, during the rainy season, watering should be controlled, and ways should be found to shelter them from the rain and place them on a sheltered balcony.

Potted fig maintenance precautions

Figs prefer a warm growing environment, are drought-resistant but not cold-resistant, and generally grow more appropriately at a temperature of 20-30°C. In winter, you need to take measures to keep warm and you can move them directly indoors.

Figs cannot tolerate stagnant water. If the environment is poorly ventilated and the soil is moist, root rot is likely to occur. It can be treated with carbendazim and chlorpyrifos. Other common pests include red spiders, snails, etc., which can be sprayed with drugs.
