Walnut planting technology and management

Walnut planting technology and management

The most important thing in walnut planting is seedling cultivation. The best time for seedling cultivation is autumn and spring. In autumn, the seeds do not need to be processed and can be directly sown into the soil. In spring, the seeds must be processed before sowing. First, put the seeds into a woven bag, and then soak them in a pool of water for about 7 to 10 days. Remember to turn them over every 3 to 4 days, and then expose them to the sun. When 70% of the seeds have cracks, they can be sown.

Walnut planting technology

1. Apply base fertilizer

When cultivating walnuts, you need to apply base fertilizer before planting, which will help the growth of walnuts. Usually, the base fertilizer applied is organic fertilizer. After applying the base fertilizer, you must pay attention to watering, so that the walnuts can better absorb the fertilizer.

2. Watering management

Walnuts like a humid growing environment, but water should not be allowed to accumulate in the pot. After winter, they can be watered once a month, and normal watering can be done only when the temperature rises to 15 degrees.

3. Astigmatism

When planting walnuts, they need to be given sufficient sunlight, and the daily light time should not be less than 6 hours. The light is strong in summer, so shade measures must be taken, otherwise the walnut leaves will be burned.

4. Prune dense branches

When caring for walnuts, you must pay attention to regular pruning, otherwise the dense branches will block the sunlight. You should also cut off the branches that are too long on the top. This can be done every spring.

Walnut Management Methods

1. Spring

In spring, management work such as whitewashing, application of base fertilizer, watering, and disease and pest control should be carried out around the Qingming Festival. For orchards that did not apply base fertilizer last year, fertilizer and watering should be applied once after the soil thaws.

2. Summer

Around the summer solstice is a good time to do pest and disease control, weeding, composting and other management. The maintenance during this period will directly affect the plant yield. It is also necessary to increase the application of topdressing at this time to achieve a good harvest.

3. Autumn and winter

Autumn and winter are suitable for weeding, pest control and other management. From mid-September to early November, dense branches and shading branches should be pruned. After pruning, the entire garden should be sprayed with sterilization and antifreeze drugs.
