How to root Phalaenopsis by cuttings

How to root Phalaenopsis by cuttings

The Phalaenopsis potted plants bought on the market are not cultivated by sowing, because Phalaenopsis rarely produces seeds, and it cannot be propagated by division. Instead, they are cultivated by tissue culture, but that requires some advanced equipment and relatively strict conditions. In fact, the simplest way of cultivation is to choose the cutting method to propagate Phalaenopsis.

Phalaenopsis cutting time

When propagating Phalaenopsis by leaf cuttings, you must choose the right time. From the perspective of the growth habits of Phalaenopsis, it is best to do leaf cuttings in spring and autumn, specifically between March-May or September-November, or after the flowering period of the plant is over, because after the flowering period is over the plant itself will produce many new buds, which is very suitable for the growth of branches during cuttings.

Phalaenopsis cutting method

In the Phalaenopsis cutting method, the time for cutting is after the flowering period of the plant is over, because after this period of time the Phalaenopsis will grow on its stems. When the branches grow to 5 cm, they can be cut off for cuttings. After cutting the branches, the plant wounds need to be disinfected to prevent the wounds from being infected by bacteria. Insert the treated branches into the prepared soil. After the cuttings are completed, the soil needs to be compacted and watered appropriately to keep the soil moist.

Phalaenopsis cutting rooting

If you want Phalaenopsis to take root quickly when cuttings, you must control the temperature at 22-28 degrees, which is very conducive to the rooting of the cuttings. And when propagating Phalaenopsis by cuttings, you must use germination hormone. After using it, the success rate of cuttings will be more than half higher. The most important thing is to maintain good ventilation and suitable light. It should be kept in a place with bright and scattered light, and not exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, let alone exposure to the sun.
