How to Thin the Buds of Chrysanthemum

How to Thin the Buds of Chrysanthemum

Reasons for bud thinning of chrysanthemum

When chrysanthemums are in full bloom, many flower buds will grow on the top of the branches. Not only that, but multiple flower buds will grow on the branches.

At this time, you need to pay attention to thinning the chrysanthemum buds, because each flower of the chrysanthemum blooms relatively small, without order, and can be said to be rather messy. In order to make the chrysanthemums beautiful, bud thinning is necessary.

How to Thin the Buds of Chrysanthemum

Bud thinning time

The time for thinning chrysanthemum buds is generally from late September to early October, which is when the chrysanthemums are about to bloom.

Bud thinning can be done after the flower buds have grown well, but you can also wait until the flower stalks are longer before thinning the buds.

Step 1: Flower buds that need to be thinned out

After the chrysanthemum buds grow out, if thinning is necessary, the excess buds are generally removed. On the branches of chrysanthemums, where the flower buds are densely packed, you can selectively thin out some of them. If you find that there are flower buds that are not growing well, you can also thin them out to avoid affecting the quality of flowering.

Step 2: Thinning buds

Bud thinning is to remove the extra buds. You can pinch the buds to be removed with the tips of your fingers, and remove them one at a time. Be careful not to damage other buds, so be gentle.

Alternatively, you can use scissors to cut off the flower buds you want to remove, or use tweezers to remove the extra flower buds.

Be sure to be careful when doing this so as not to damage the flower buds that need to be preserved, otherwise it will affect the opening of the chrysanthemum.

Step 3: Treatment after bud thinning

After thinning the chrysanthemum buds, be careful not to leave the removed buds in the pot, but clean them up.

Then you need to water the chrysanthemums that have just been thinned out, and then place them in a well-lit place for maintenance, paying attention to ventilation.
