Cultivation methods and precautions of variegated rubber trees

The variegated rubber tree has a well-developed root system and strong vitality, so it is very easy to cultivate. However, the variegated rubber tree is not cold-resistant. Its suitable temperature range for growth is wide, and it can generally grow normally at 15-35℃. The wintering temperature cannot be lower than 5℃, so friends in the north cannot cultivate it outdoors. Just pay attention to the temperature management.

How to grow variegated rubber trees

When caring for the variegated rubber tree, you can water it every 3 to 5 days. During the vigorous growth period of the rubber tree, you need to increase the watering frequency to ensure that the soil is slightly moist. Because the variegated rubber tree has poor cold resistance, the temperature needs to be controlled between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius during maintenance. During the growth period of the variegated rubber tree, it is also necessary to apply diluted liquid fertilizer every 20 days to supplement nutrients.

1. Soil

The variegated rubber tree does not have high requirements for soil. It prefers slightly acidic soil, but it can also survive in neutral soil. Therefore, when raising a variegated rubber tree, just be careful not to let the soil become alkaline. You can add some ferrous sulfate solution to keep the soil acidic.

2. Lighting

The variegated rubber tree is a tropical plant that prefers sunlight when it grows. It is best to maintain 6 to 7 hours of sunlight a day. However, it needs proper shade in the summer to prevent the leaves from being burned. For potted rubber trees, they can be placed in a place with sufficient scattered light and ventilation in the summer.

3. Temperature

The variegated rubber tree is a tropical plant, so it likes a warm climate. Its roots are particularly sensitive to temperature and are easily frostbitten once it gets cold. The temperature suitable for its growth is around 15 to 35 degrees. In summer, place it in a ventilated place indoors to avoid the heat, and in winter, move it indoors to avoid the cold.

4. Watering

Tropical green leafy plants prefer warm and humid climates, and the variegated rubber tree is no exception. It cannot be left without water for a long time, otherwise it will easily die of drought. It should be watered once a day during the growing season. Because its root system is relatively developed, it must be watered thoroughly, otherwise the roots underneath will easily wither due to lack of water.

5. Fertilization

Variegated rubber trees prefer fertilizers, and during the growth period, they need to be fertilized with decomposed organic fertilizers every month. At the same time, during the growth period, if you want the leaves of the rubber tree to grow thicker and more lush, you can add more fertilizers with higher nitrogen and potassium content.

6. Repotting

The roots of the variegated rubber tree grow relatively fast, so the flowerpot for the variegated rubber tree can easily hinder the growth of its roots. Therefore, it is necessary to repot the tree frequently. When repotting, you should also pay attention to the roots of the variegated rubber tree. If the roots are rotten, you should trim them in time.

Precautions for the maintenance of variegated rubber trees

When caring for the variegated rubber tree, be careful that its juice is somewhat toxic. If there are children at home, be careful not to let them touch or accidentally ingest it. In addition, although this plant is relatively shade-tolerant, if you want it to grow well, you still have to let it get enough sun, which is conducive to the growth of fuller branches and trunks. At the same time, it should be placed in a ventilated place for cultivation.
