Why do gardenia leaves dry up in winter?

Why do gardenia leaves dry up in winter?

1. Insufficient watering

Reason: Gardenia will continue to grow if the temperature is suitable in winter. Insufficient watering at this time will cause the leaves to dry out.

Solution: Water the gardenia in time. Generally, you can water it when the soil in the pot turns white. Don't let it be deprived of water for a long time. At the same time, there should be no stagnant water to prevent its roots from rotting.

2. Lack of fertilizer

Reason: Gardenias that grow normally in winter also need to be fertilized. Insufficient nitrogen fertilizer can easily cause the leaves to dry out.

Solution: Although the main reason for yellowing leaves is lack of nitrogen fertilizer, you cannot only apply nitrogen fertilizer when fertilizing. You should choose a compound fertilizer with a balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium and apply it once a month. When applying fertilizer, be sure to add water to fully dilute the fertilizer.

3. Lack of light

Reason: If gardenia is placed in a warm place indoors in winter, it may not see light for a long time, causing the leaves to dry and turn yellow.

Solution: Move the gardenia to a sunny location. Since the sunlight is not so strong in winter, it can receive sunlight for a long time. If the temperature in the sunny place is not high, you can leave it there for a while at noon and move it back indoors at night.

4. Air Drying

Cause: Dry air can cause gardenia leaves to lose water, causing them to dry out.

Solution: You can spray water on the leaves of gardenias or sprinkle water on the surrounding ground to increase the humidity of the environment.
