How to prune azalea

How to prune azalea

When pruning azalea, you can cut off the small branches, do not keep the overly dense branches and the weak buds growing from the bottom, and then shorten the branches appropriately. After pruning, it will quickly grow many side buds.

How to prune azalea

The best time to prune rhododendrons is from March to April in spring and from September to October in autumn, because the temperature and humidity at this time are more suitable for the plant's growth recovery.

Pruning azalea is relatively simple. First, prepare a pair of sharp sterilized scissors, and then thin out the branches and leaves that grow too densely on the plant. This will increase light transmittance and ventilation between plants.

Azalea pruning tips

1. Seedling stage: When new buds sprout, you can prune and transform the protruding branches outside the crown to make the plant look more rounded and improve its ornamental value.

2. Mature plants: Some branches of azalea grow weakly. You can correct them by tying them with wire or string. This is beneficial to the regular growth of the plants and the growth and development of the azalea.

3. Light: When pruning, place the plant in a ventilated and breathable semi-shaded environment to avoid direct sunlight. Move it to a bright place and allow the plant to receive no less than 5-6 hours of light per day.
