Hydroponic method of Christmas cactus

Hydroponic method of Christmas cactus

When it comes to hydroponics, in fact, all the plants are similar. According to basic common sense, if you encounter a problem, just tinker with it. During the operation, water is no longer a problem. It is likely that the problem is mostly caused by climate and environment.

Hydroponics steps

1. Choose a strong plant. Here I don’t need to use too many adjectives to describe the strength of the plant. Green and thick leaves are enough.

2. Wash and trim the roots. Hydroponic flowers require that the roots must be free of impurities. Therefore, after removing the plant from the potting soil, wash the soil at the roots with clean water and cut off the aging rhizomes.

3. Disinfection: Soak the washed roots in potassium permanganate solution for 10 to 30 minutes, take them out, rinse them with clean water, and let them dry naturally.

4. Planting: After the plants are dried, put them directly into water, and put a little expanded clay or stone under the water to fix the plants. The water level should be enough to cover 2/3 of the roots.

5. Change water: Use clean water at the beginning. After new roots grow, pour out the water and replace it with nutrient solution to ensure the water quality. Remember to replace the water with clean water during the plant's dormant period. Change the water every 2 to 3 days in the early stage, and once the roots are stable, change the water every 2 weeks. Between two water changes, if the water is clean, you can just add water without changing it.

Precautions

Do not choose transparent containers in the early stage of hydroponics. The glass bottle against the light will inhibit the growth of roots and slow down the rooting.

The branches and leaves need sufficient light, but not strong light. Appropriate sunlight, temperature, and morning light can prevent the plant from growing too tall.

In the early stage of hydroponics, the leaves wilt, which is normal. Depending on the environment, recovery time can range from several days to several months.

When changing the water, the temperature cannot be too cold. Especially in winter, the water temperature is comparable to room temperature.
