When to transplant chives

When to transplant chives

Chives are a common vegetable in life and one of the most grown vegetables in rural areas. Many people will plant a small piece of it in the yard. If you take good care of it, you can eat fresh leeks in spring, summer and autumn. There are two ways to grow leeks. One is to sow them with leek seeds, and the other is to transplant them with leek roots.

Leek transplanting time

The best time to transplant leeks is from July to August every year, because the temperature is high and the humidity is high during this period. In this environment, not only the above-ground part of the leek grows rapidly, but the root system also grows rapidly, and the transplant survival rate is very high.

Leek transplanting method

Although leek can grow repeatedly, it also has a lifespan. The lifespan of leek is generally about 6 years. Therefore, when transplanting, you should choose leek with a lifespan of 1-2 years, which has high planting returns. In addition, leek with a lifespan of 1-2 years grows rapidly, which can increase the survival rate of leek transplanting.

Before transplanting the leek, you must water it thoroughly. Then after digging the leek out of the ground, first cut off the leek roots and cut the leek leaves in half, leaving only the entire leek stems and 3-4 cm leek leaves.

After cutting the leeks, you can transplant them. You can choose to plant them in holes or rows. If you plant them in holes, plant 5-6 leeks in one hole with a hole distance of 10 cm. If you plant them in rows, place the leeks in the dug rows one by one.

Management of leek after transplanting

After transplanting the leek, you need to water it thoroughly, that is, water the roots. This can promote the close combination of the roots and the soil. Note that if the light intensity is relatively high, you must take shade measures and do not place it in direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and affect the seedling growth.
