Cattleya cultivation methods and precautions

Cattleya cultivation methods and precautions

Cattleya is very easy to grow. It is a perennial herb of the genus Cattleya of the orchid family and is a very famous orchid internationally. Cattleya has strong resistance and was first discovered as a binding material. Its flowers are large and the colors are very bright, including white, yellow, green, etc. It blooms 1-2 times a year and the flowers have a special fragrance.

How to grow Cattleya

When growing Catalan orchids, the plants should be exposed to more scattered light. If they are not exposed to scattered light, their leaves will grow too long but they will not bloom. During its growth period, it needs to be watered more often to keep the soil in the pot moist. You can also spray water mist around the plants to increase the humidity of the surrounding environment, so that they can grow well.

1. Lighting

Cattleya orchids cannot tolerate strong direct sunlight. In spring, summer and autumn, 50% of the light needs to be blocked for the plants. In winter, the plants can be placed on the windowsill without shading. Like all orchids, Cattleya orchids prefer diffuse light and avoid direct sunlight. In summer, the plants can be placed under the shade of lush trees for maintenance. In winter, the light is not so strong, so the Cattleya orchids can be directly exposed to the sun on the balcony.

2. Watering

Cattleya flowers hibernate in winter and require less water, only needing watering once every 7-15 days. In the other three seasons, they can be watered every 3-5 days. After watering, pay attention to ventilation to avoid root rot. If ventilation is not timely, bacteria can easily breed, increasing the chance of diseases and pests.

3. Temperature

The most suitable temperature for the growth of Cattleya flowers is between 20-30 degrees Celsius. If the temperature exceeds 30 degrees in summer, the Cattleya flowers will stop growing. In order to prevent the surface temperature from being too high, the plants need to be cooled. In winter, you must pay attention to frost prevention and place the plants in a warm indoor environment as soon as possible.

Cattleya care precautions

During the cultivation process of Cattleya, attention should be paid to the management and prevention of diseases and pests. It cannot withstand the cold in winter. When the temperature drops in winter, it should be moved indoors in time, otherwise it will freeze to death. It should be repotted after one or two years. It is recommended to repot in spring.
