Cultivation methods and precautions of calla lily

Calla lily is very easy to grow. It is a green plant that likes a warm environment. It grows best in a warm environment above 20 degrees. Calla lily does not have high requirements for soil. It only needs fertile, loose and acidic soil. However, there are other varieties that are not easy to grow. Generally, the common calla lily is still easy to grow.

How to cultivate calla lily

Calla lily is native to South China, Southwest China and Taiwan, and is also distributed in Southeast Asia. It grows in tropical rainforests and wild banana forests at an altitude of 200-1100 meters. It likes warm, humid and semi-shady environments, and is resistant to humidity and heat, but not cold. The most suitable temperature for its growth is between 20-25℃. Although it likes sunlight, it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight. Potted plants need to be semi-shaded in summer. It is relatively resistant to water and humidity, but afraid of waterlogging. It has strong adaptability to soil, and can grow well in ordinary garden soil or sandy loam.

1. Temperature

As a tropical plant, calla lily likes high temperatures and is not cold-resistant. It requires the temperature of the growing environment to reach above 20 degrees. If the temperature is too low, the calla lily will stop growing and enter a dormant period. Therefore, in winter, it is necessary to take insulation measures for it in time and move the plant into a greenhouse.

2. Lighting

In the summer, calla lilies should be shaded and never placed in direct sunlight. In other seasons, they can be moved outdoors in the morning and evening to absorb appropriate light.

3. Soil

Calla lily does not have high requirements for soil, and loose and fertile soil can be used. You can use substrates such as leaf mold and peat soil. You can add some base fertilizer to the soil before potting to increase the fertility of the soil.

4. Fertilization

Calla lilies like fertilizer very much, and the frequency of fertilization is once a month. You can use thin fertilizer or water-soluble fertilizer to increase the nutritional supply of calla lilies and promote their growth. Of course, you cannot apply too much fertilizer, otherwise it will cause the leaves of calla lilies to become burnt and other phenomena.

5. Moisture

When watering calla lilies, remember to follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and keep the soil slightly moist. In summer, due to high temperatures and fast evaporation of water, the frequency and amount of watering should be increased. In winter, the temperature is low and the plant enters a dormant period. At this time, water less or even stop watering to avoid water accumulation.

Notes on the maintenance of calla lilies

When caring for calla lilies, you should pay attention to the fact that its juice is poisonous and the dripping water is also poisonous. Families with children should avoid growing it to prevent children from accidentally ingesting it. When caring for calla lilies, you should also be reminded that it is a poisonous plant. If you come into contact with the juice, you should rinse it with clean water in time to avoid irritation or poisoning reactions caused by contact with the juice.
