The reason why the roots of Spathiphyllum leaves turn black

The reason why the roots of Spathiphyllum leaves turn black

1. Too much watering

Although Spathiphyllum likes an environment with sufficient water, it cannot withstand too much watering. A large amount of water accumulates in the potting soil, making the roots feel suffocated and unable to breathe normally. This will cause the roots to rot and turn black, thus affecting their growth. Later, problems will occur with the leaves and the entire plant.

2. Fertilization is too concentrated

In addition to applying too much water, it is also possible that the fertilizer applied is too concentrated, making it difficult for the roots to absorb the fertilizer normally, causing the remaining fertilizer to accumulate at the roots, thereby burning the roots and showing signs of rotting and blackening. When applying organic fertilizer, this phenomenon will also occur if the raw fertilizer is not decomposed.

3. The pot soil is not suitable

Spathiphyllum likes to grow in slightly acidic soil. If long-term watering causes the soil in the pot to become alkaline, the roots of the plant will find it difficult to adapt, causing them to turn black and rot. After the roots rot, the transport function will be affected and the leaves will also turn black.

4. Solution

When the roots and leaves of Spathiphyllum turn black, they need to be cut off immediately with scissors, and then the maintenance method should be changed. Water and nutrients should be applied reasonably. Do not apply too much. When the potting soil becomes alkaline, acidic substances can be added in appropriate amounts.
