What are the cultivation methods and precautions of hydrangea?

Hydrangea cultivation method

Hydrangea prefers a warm, humid, semi-shady environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 18-28 degrees. Flower bud differentiation requires 6 to 8 weeks at 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. 20 degrees can promote flowering. The winter maintenance temperature must not be lower than 5 degrees. It likes sunlight, but is not resistant to direct sunlight. It is best to provide diffuse light maintenance.

Watering method

The soil of hydrangeas should be kept moist, but do not overwater. Water evaporates quickly in summer, so you can water them once a day. Water them every 2-3 days in spring and autumn, and once a month in winter. Avoid rain during the rainy season and take good drainage measures.

Fertilization method

Hydrangea is a fertilizer-loving plant. During the growth period, you can apply diluted liquid fertilizer made from human feces or chicken manure once every half a month to promote the differentiation of flower buds and the growth of the plant. Spray 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution during the flowering period. If planted in alkaline soil, you can water it with ferrous sulfate solution or alum fertilizer water to neutralize the alkalinity of the soil.

Pruning methods

The growing environment of hydrangeas must be clean, and the surrounding weeds need to be removed in time. When there are too many new leaves, you can pinch them off, and trim the overgrown branches and overly dense branches to increase light transmittance. In addition, diseased branches and dead leaves should also be trimmed in time after the flowers bloom to reduce nutrient loss.

Hydrangea cultivation precautions

To grow hydrangeas well, you need to provide a growth temperature of 15-27 degrees. In winter, it is best to move them to a sunny place indoors, and the room temperature cannot be lower than 5℃, otherwise the hydrangeas will be frostbitten. In summer, you need to cool down and provide shade, and you can provide bright diffuse light for maintenance.
