Coffee orchid cultivation methods and precautions

Coffee orchid cultivation methods and precautions

Coffee orchid has a wide adaptability to the environment and is mainly distributed in Central and South America. It has a high appreciation value and emits a fragrance when it blooms, which is a bit like the smell of coffee. It is a relatively easy-to-grow orchid variety.

How to grow coffee orchid

1. Soil preparation

When choosing soil for coffee orchid, use one with better drainage. You can use humus soil plus yellow mud, or use garden soil from previous years. Do not use soil with high sand content. After the soil is prepared, expose it to the sun for 2-3 days. If conditions permit, you can disinfect it with carbendazim.

2. Light and temperature

Coffee orchid likes an environment with high temperature, high humidity and plenty of sunshine. The sunlight is relatively mild in spring, autumn and winter, and it can accept full sunlight. When the sunlight is more intense in summer, it is best to move it to a place with partial sunlight and try to avoid direct sunlight at noon. You can also block it with a shade net or use other things as a cover.

3. Water and fertilizer

Coffee orchid does not require much water. It is usually watered every 3-4 days. Each time you water it, the soil needs to be watered thoroughly, but there should be no water accumulation at the bottom of the pot to prevent the root system of the coffee orchid from rotting. When the air is dry in summer, spray water on its leaves and surrounding areas.

4. Fertilization

Coffee orchid grows fast and requires more fertilizer. It is necessary to ensure that there are sufficient nutrients in the soil. Quick-acting fertilizer can be applied once a week during the growth period. If there are insufficient nutrients in the soil, the branches and leaves of the coffee orchid will be smaller and wrinkles will appear on the leaves.

Coffee orchid care precautions

The potting soil of coffee orchid can be changed once after one year of cultivation. It is best to do it in the warm spring. This will cause less damage to the plant and is also beneficial to its later growth. Be careful not to expose it directly to the sun after repotting. Move it to a cool place for about 4-5 days.
