Do succulents need sunlight every day?Sunlight allows plants to fully carry out photosynthesis, synthesize nutrients, and provide the energy necessary for growth and development. Therefore, it is also one of the basic elements for potted plants to survive. Especially since succulents have thick and fleshy leaves, sufficient light helps prevent them from growing too tall and reduces the water content in cells, thereby increasing the pigment ratio and making succulents appear brightly colored. Therefore, most succulents are long-day plants and require sufficient light for a long time. Succulent plants need to be exposed to the sun for a long time, but there are two exceptions:⑴Proper shading is required during high temperatures in summer: The main growing season of succulents is in spring, autumn and early winter. They have the characteristic of short-term dormancy during the high temperature season in summer. Therefore, in order to make them survive the summer smoothly, it is necessary to provide shade, control watering and avoid rain during the high temperature period in summer. Otherwise, in a high temperature and high humidity environment, succulents are prone to sunburn, waterlogging of leaves, and black rot of roots and stems . During the growth period, they can be exposed to full sunlight, which is beneficial for both shape control and coloring. (2) Varieties that prefer semi-shade do not require full sun: Among the tens of thousands of succulent varieties, there are a few that do not require full sun. For example: Jade Dew, Jade Fan, Longevity, Sun Moon Lake and other Haworthia soft-leaved succulents with highly transparent fleshy leaves only need a soft, scattered sunlight environment to grow well. Excessive light will cause them to turn red, burst the windows, and even lose their crystal clear window feeling. Secondly, hard-leaved Haworthia series such as Striped Haworthia, Zibao, Angel's Tears, Glass Palace, and Zuikaku do not need excessive exposure to the sun to avoid dry tips and redness of the leaves. Finally, vine-type succulent plants such as Buddha Beads, Lover's Tears, Purple Moon, and Love Vine do not require full sunlight . A scattered sunlight environment is more conducive to full leaf color and prevents the vines from drying up due to sunburn and dehydration. |
