When is the best time to control the growth of peanuts (how high can peanuts grow to increase yields by controlling their growth)

When is the best time to control the growth of peanuts (how high can peanuts grow to increase yields by controlling their growth)

Zheshan in Anqiu, Shandong is known as the hometown of peanuts. Many of my colleagues have opened stores here to sell agricultural supplies. According to them, the sales of peanut growth control drugs there are very few, and most people do not control the growth of peanuts. But here, almost all peanuts are controlled, and they are controlled 2-3 times.

Why is this happening?

First, Zheshan is originally a mountainous area, and peanuts are grown in hilly areas. You can imagine that the soil is not fertile in the mountains, and in recent years, the amount of soil fertilizer used is small, and it mainly relies on chemical fertilizers. With the decreasing rainfall, the peanuts there do not grow vigorously, and the seedlings do not grow too high. Why should they control the growth?

Second, although we are close to Zheshan Mountain, we have few mountains and fertile soil. We can irrigate and drain the soil, and use a lot of chemical fertilizers. Every acre of peanut field needs 150-200 kilograms of compound fertilizer. This leads to the phenomenon of excessive growth of peanuts in the rainy July and August, so we have to spray growth control agents to regulate growth in order to obtain high yields.

Therefore, whether peanuts need to be controlled or not ultimately depends on the growth of the plants. No matter what kind of soil you use or how much fertilizer you use, you should only control the growth of the plants when they start to grow too tall. Otherwise, do not control them.

One year, there was a drought here in June. The leaves of the peanuts turned white, and the plants were only about a foot tall, so no one controlled their growth.

But unexpectedly, after entering July, the rain continued to fall, for nearly half a month. The peanuts came back to life, and with sufficient fertilizer, they grew wildly.

But because it rained so frequently, some people were too lazy to spray the growth-regulating agents. This was a terrible problem. The peanuts that were not controlled went crazy, and the vines all fell to the ground, stretching out to bear fruit, and stretching like sweet potato vines.

I am one of the lazy ones. When it was time to harvest peanuts, I saw peanut vines all over the ground, some of which were about 1 meter long. It was difficult to harvest them. More importantly, the yield was too low. There were less than 10 fruits on each peanut plant, and most of them were single fruits. I was almost discouraged.

Now that we have discussed the first question, the second question is how to increase the yield of peanuts.

In order to achieve high yield of peanuts, we must first select good varieties, dry the seeds, peel them in time, and apply coating treatments such as ammonium molybdate, insecticides and fungicides.

The second step is to apply enough base fertilizer and seed fertilizer, especially calcium fertilizer, and then make ridges, plant at a reasonable density, and the sowing depth should be 4-5 cm. Spray herbicide and cover the film.

The last issue is field management, such as drought and flood prevention, weeding, pest and disease control, growth control and lodging prevention.

Peanuts are relatively drought-resistant and generally do not need to be watered during short-term droughts. However, if the drought is particularly severe, it will also affect the peanut yield, especially during the podding and fruit-filling stages. Be sure to pay attention to watering, otherwise the yield will be seriously affected.

For weed control, you can choose high-efficiency grass weed herbicides such as fluazifop-butyl and quizalofop-butyl. When there are broad-leaved weeds, you can mix them with broad-leaved weed herbicides such as fluazifop-butyl.

Let's focus on the issue of controlling the power

During the vigorous growth period of peanuts, if the external conditions such as soil, fertilizer, water, variety, density, etc. are not coordinated, it is likely to cause the plants to grow too tall and fall over, which will have a great impact on the yield.

You can imagine that most of the nutrients absorbed are used for the growth of peanut seedlings, so less will be used for the growth of fruits. Plants have such a characteristic that the more nutrients are supplied to the part that grows vigorously.

The vigorous the growth of the peanut seedlings, the more nutrients will be transported to the seedlings. The vigorous the seedlings grow, the more nutrients they need, and the more nutrients will be transported to the seedlings. The less nutrients will be transported to the fruits, so won't the yield decrease?

Therefore, it is important to control the vigorous growth of nuts. During its vigorous growth period, that is, the flowering period, when the plant height reaches more than 30 cm, it is important to control the vigorous growth in a timely and appropriate manner.

Here, the time is about mid-July to early August. The drugs used are mainly drugs containing plant growth regulators such as chlormequat, paclobutrazol, diniconazole, and diniconazole, which can be mixed with appropriate insecticides and fungicides.

Well, that's all. Finally, pay attention to foliar fertilizer in the later stage, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, boron fertilizer, calcium fertilizer, etc., which will promote the increase of yield.
