Matters Needing Attention in the Maintenance and Management of Bougainvillea in Autumn (Maintenance Methods of Bougainvillea in Autumn and Winter)

When bougainvillea blooms, the flowers are in clusters and very beautiful, and are loved by many people. After autumn, most bougainvillea will enter the flowering period, so autumn management is very important. There are the following aspects that need to be paid attention to in autumn maintenance.

Water and fertilizer management in autumn

Bougainvillea enters its second vigorous growth stage in autumn. It requires more water and fertilizer at this stage, so be sure to ensure sufficient water and fertilizer.

However, before the flowering period, do not water too much. According to the growth characteristics of Bougainvillea, proper water control can promote flower bud differentiation. Of course, there are many varieties of Bougainvillea now, and whether to control water depends on the actual situation.

Because it is about to enter the flowering period, the nitrogen fertilizer should be reduced and the phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be increased. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can promote the differentiation of flower buds and make the bougainvillea flowers large and colorful.

After the Cold Dew in late autumn, the temperature in the north is low and the growth of Bougainvillea basically stops. The amount of watering should be reduced, while normal watering is allowed in the south.

Fall Pruning

Bougainvillea will sprout a lot of new branches in autumn, so it is necessary to prune them appropriately. The branches on the outside of the upper part of the bougainvillea bloom more, and the branches on the inside bloom less.

When pruning, remove the weak and dense branches that affect ventilation to reduce excessive consumption of nutrients. The external branches should be appropriately shortened.

Autumn cold protection

The suitable growth temperature of bougainvillea is 20-25 degrees, and it is not cold-resistant. When the temperature in winter drops below 10 degrees, it is necessary to take measures to keep warm. Especially for the maintenance of bougainvillea in the north, keeping warm is very important.

After late autumn, when the temperature drops, you should go indoors to keep warm. After going indoors, open the windows for ventilation every day and spray water frequently to increase the air humidity.
