How to prune rose pomegranate

How to prune rose pomegranate

The significance of pruning

This type of plant has its own pruning principles. Since their flowers and fruits are very incomplete, it is easy for some to grow poorly, so they must be removed in time to allow the remaining flowers and fruits to grow better. If you can remove the deformed or diseased fruits in time, it will not only improve the appearance, but also make the remaining fruits fuller. The flowering and fruiting period of this plant is relatively critical, and the first pruning must be done before this period, basically between late April and late May. This period of time is just after the flowers have sprouted but before they bloom.

Time to prune

winter

There should be some space between the three main branches and the side branches so that the small branches have enough space to grow. However, the distance between some main branches is relatively small, so try to increase the distance as much as possible. After the main branches are spaced apart, the small branches can be thinned out slightly. The top and outside can be sparse, but the bottom and inside should be dense. Each branch should not cross or overlap, and there should be a certain gap. Otherwise, when new branches grow in spring and summer after germination, they will cross severely, which will not only affect the growth but also affect the appearance.

autumn

Generally, from August to October, it can sprout 2-3 new shoots, so that the branches on the crown will be denser, and the light transmission will not meet the requirements, so it is necessary to ensure that the fruit can see the light. In addition, diseased and insect-infested branches should be cut off and burned to prevent them from spreading to other plants.

summer

This is a good time for fruiting. If you are in the north, it is basically in June. You must remove the deformed and diseased fruits. There is no need to keep the smaller fruits. When the third batch of fruits appears, you don’t have to worry about it and can pick them all because this batch is basically smaller.

spring

The first batch of flower buds will basically sprout in April and May. Each fruit branch must be observed carefully. Not too many buds can be left on each branch, otherwise the yield will be high and the fruits will be small. Leaving too many buds will affect the fruit quality and the fruiting in the second year, so you must pay attention.
