Which month is the best for cuttings of osmanthus? When is the best time for cuttings of osmanthus to survive?

How many years does it take for sweet osmanthus cuttings to bloom?

If we buy osmanthus cuttings from the market, we need to let them grow again in the first year, and they can bloom in the second year. If we do it ourselves, the osmanthus cuttings can usually bloom after 4-6 years .

When is the best time to take cuttings of osmanthus trees?

The best time to take cuttings of osmanthus trees is from mid-May to mid-July and from mid-September to mid-October . Because the temperature is suitable during these two periods. The osmanthus trees also stop growing new shoots at this time, the nutrients in the branches are relatively sufficient, and the survival rate of cuttings is high.

Although osmanthus branches can be grown by cutting , do not do it in winter because the temperature is too low in winter. The most suitable temperature for osmanthus to take root is 25℃ to 28℃ , and it is not easy to take root after cutting in winter.

Methods and steps of osmanthus cuttings

Soil requirements

The best soil for cuttings is fertile sandy loam , because sandy loam is loose, breathable, and has good drainage. Such soil is rich in nutrients and is less likely to accumulate water, which can prevent the cuttings from being soaked by water.

Cuttings processing

Select a healthy and disease-free branch from a strong mother plant. The cuttings are usually selected from the upper part of the outer crown, preferably a young branch grown that year and not fully lignified.

Then, cut about 10 cm , leaving 2 leaves above the branch . Make sure to cut the bottom of the cutting into an oblique mouth , and then soak it in rooting powder solution for about an hour.

Cuttings

Before cutting, use a small stick or bamboo stick to poke holes in the soil, then insert the cuttings into the holes to a depth of about 5 cm . Then compact the soil around the cuttings, water the soil thoroughly with a diluted solution of carbendazim, cover with a film, and the cuttings are complete.

Maintenance

While waiting for the cuttings to take root, keep the soil moist. Spray with clean water twice a day to maintain the air humidity around the cuttings. Place the cuttings in a cool and ventilated location. After the cuttings take root, they can be transplanted in the fall or the next spring .
