Let’s learn about honeysuckle planting techniques and cultivation management methods.

1. Planting

Time: The best sowing period is from the end of March to the beginning of April.

Germination: Soak the seeds in warm water for a day, then use wet sand to germinate until 40% of the seeds have cracks.

Sowing: Keep the row spacing at 20 cm, cover the soil after digging furrows and sowing, spray water every two days, and seedlings will emerge in about 15 days.

Transplanting: Transplant in autumn or spring of the following year.

2. Cutting

Time: During the rainy season or summer and autumn, choose healthy, disease- and insect-free annual or biennial seedlings.

Treatment: Remove the lower leaves and provide shade to prevent drying out.

Cutting: Carry out in August, depth 15 cm, row spacing 25 cm, plant spacing 2 cm, use sandy soil with good air permeability.

Watering: Water once 3 days before the dry season, and it will take about 15 days for the plant to take root.

3. Transplanting

Time: September in autumn or mid-March in spring.

Site selection: A sunny plot close to a water source, with good drainage, deep soil, and no industrial pollution.

Fertilization: Use fully decomposed farmyard manure or organic fertilizer , cut weeds, and use green muscardine microgranules to control underground pests.

Land preparation: Turn over and rake the soil, set row spacing at 150 cm, plant spacing at 120 cm, and cover with black mulch to prevent weeds and keep warm.

4. Field Management

Loosen the soil and apply fertilizer: In late March, turn the soil 10 cm deep, cut off old roots, and apply fertilizers such as wood ash, urea, and potassium sulfate.

Pruning: Shape the crown of honeysuckle every year to control height and branching, and cultivate flowering branches.

Pruning: Remove sprouts below 30 cm, pinch and prune at appropriate times, and cut off diseased and weak branches.

5. Pest and disease control

Powdery mildew: Improve ventilation and light transmission, and use Bacillus and osthole alternately for prevention and control.

Brown spot disease: Cut off the diseased plants and spray Bordeaux mixture or amino oligosaccharides and Bacillus.

Pests: Use matrine , rotenone, etc. to control red spider mites and aphids, and release seven-spotted ladybugs for biological control.

6. Picking

Choose the flower buds, which are green at the bottom and milky white at the top, and harvested when there is no dew. Air dry or dry artificially, controlling the temperature and time until crisp and fragrant.

In general, when planting honeysuckle, you need to pay attention to light, water and ventilation conditions, and carefully manage the plants and pests and diseases to ensure healthy growth and high-quality output.
