How to deal with orchids bought online and how to water newly potted orchids

Orchid potting

The orchids we buy are usually planted with large stones or bare roots. So no matter which type you buy, the first thing to do is to plant the bare roots in the pot . We need to expose the roots, check for dry roots, and cut off all of them without leaving any. After pruning is completed.

If you have rooting liquid and carbendazim, don't forget to soak them in water for 15 to 30 minutes. After soaking, we can put it in a well-ventilated place with diffused light to dry for half a day . It is best to let the roots lose water a little.

After it is dried, it can be planted. Potting is very simple. What we need to do is to find some soil specially for orchids. It is recommended that you use fermented bark, peanut shells, etc. for cultivation. We can also add some small particles such as medical stone appropriately, and the particle size should not exceed one centimeter. In this way, the soil has large gaps and good air permeability.

Plant the orchid directly into a pot of suitable size, with large bottom holes or multiple side holes. When planting, fill some soil in the middle of the orchid roots, then fill the soil around them and compact it so that the roots and soil are tightly combined. This completes the potting operation.

Orchid seedlings

After potting, it is time to water and slow down the seedlings . Just water it thoroughly. We can use water with multi-bacteria mud and rooting liquid to water it directly. However, the gaps between soil particles are relatively large, so watering cannot be done on one side. We need to turn the pot and water it several times to make the soil completely full of water. This is considered to be watering thoroughly .

After watering, place it in a place with good ventilation and diffuse light. Make sure it is well ventilated. Next time you water it, dig your finger into the soil surface and feel that the humidity is not high. Just water it directly and don't use any fertilizer.

Each time you water, you can add some carbendazim and rooting liquid to prevent root rot, which can promote rapid root growth . This will ensure proper ventilation and some scattered light.

Keep caring for it like this for about a month . If you find that it starts to grow new leaves and the leaves do not appear to be dry and wilted, it has basically completely adapted to the pot.
