How to grow the succulent plant red curly

How to choose red silk

When purchasing potted red currant plants, you should choose plants with full leaves, thick and straight stems and branches, and beautiful plant shape.

In addition, you should pay attention to plants with lush leaves that are medium green to red in color, have short white hairs on the leaf tips and are not damaged by defects, and are free of disease and insect damage.

Home treatment of red silk

For newly purchased potted plants, it is suitable to place them on a windowsill or balcony with sufficient light and good ventilation. Remember to avoid direct sunlight, but they should also not be placed in a hidden corner without light. Don't water too much at the beginning, just keep the soil in the pot moderately moist. When the air is extremely dry in summer, you should also water the plants excessively. You can spray water around the plants in small amounts and multiple times. Do not spray water directly on the leaves. The temperature is relatively low in winter, so it should be placed in a warm and well-lit place indoors.

Maintenance points of red silk

Growth habits of red currant

It likes a warm, dry, well-ventilated and well-lit environment. It is not cold-resistant and needs to be kept warm in winter. It is relatively drought-resistant, so avoid excessive water that will affect its growth. In summer, avoid direct sunlight and provide shade. The optimal growth temperature is 18-22℃, and the minimum temperature must not be lower than 5℃. The soil should be loose, breathable, fertile and well-drained sandy soil.

Planting of red silk

If you are planting it yourself, choose a small pot with good ventilation, and use a mixture of leaf mold and coarse sand as the potting soil, with a small amount of bone meal and organic fertilizer. Generally speaking, the pot can be replaced every two years.

Watering of red silk

During the growing season in spring, autumn and early summer, the soil in the pot should be kept slightly moist and watering is not needed too frequently. Excessive humidity will cause the leaves to grow too fast, making the plant shape difficult to control and affecting the ornamental effect. The room temperature is low in winter, so it is better to keep the soil in the pot relatively dry. When the temperature is below five degrees, it will go into hibernation on its own, and it is not suitable to water it after hibernation.

Fertilization frequency of red silk

Fertilize once a month using diluted cake fertilizer water or "Huiyou" 15-15-30 special fertilizer for potted flowers. Avoid applying too much fertilizer, otherwise it will easily lead to leaf migration and accelerate aging.

Trimming of red silk

When repotting in spring, cut off the dead leaves at the base of the leaf plate. You can also remove overly long fibrous roots or adjust the plant shape according to your preference.

Propagation of Red Silk

The red currant is usually propagated by sowing and cuttings. In spring, when the temperature is 20-22℃, use indoor pots to sow the seeds. They will germinate easily. There is no need to cover them with soil after sowing. Just sift a layer of quartz sand. Generally, they germinate about two weeks after sowing, and the seedlings grow slowly. You can also cut the small buds at the base of the leaf disk in spring and autumn and insert them into the sand bed for reproduction. They will take root after 2 to 3 weeks and can be transplanted into pots after another 2 weeks. For those who love red currant flowers, it is more convenient to directly purchase seedlings and potted plants and maintain them directly.
