How to germinate jackfruit seeds and how to plant them in pots

Jackfruit seed germination method

1. Hydroponics

Select jackfruit seeds that are round, plump and without spots. Wash them and soak them in clean water. Change the water every day to ensure the water is clear and avoid rotting of the core. They will start to sprout in about a week.

Alternatively, soak the jackfruit seeds in clean water for one day, then take them out and dry them. Then put them into a moist sponge or sphagnum moss. Keep the temperature between 10-25℃ and ensure that the sponge or sphagnum moss is moist. They will germinate in about 7-15 days.

2. Soil culture

Wash the selected jackfruit seeds, dry them in the sun, then slowly peel off the outer film, then bury the tender green seeds inside shallowly in loose and breathable soil, spray water regularly to keep the soil moist, and they will germinate in about 10-20 days.

Jackfruit seed germination process

When the temperature and humidity are suitable, the hydroponic jackfruit seeds will sprout milky white buds from the smooth end in one to two weeks, just like peanuts sprouting; the soil-cultured jackfruit seeds will have tender green seedlings breaking through the soil in 10-20 days.

Jackfruit Seed Planting and Harvesting

Jackfruit is a tropical fruit with a slightly sweet taste and thick flesh. The flesh has the effects of quenching thirst, promoting lactation, and replenishing qi, and has very high nutritional value. However, the growth cycle of jackfruit is very long. It takes about 8-10 years from sowing to fruiting . If the temperature, water and nutrients are not properly controlled, the maturity period will be even later, so the price of jackfruit in northern China is very high.
